Natural Rubber Tree Plantations in Guatemala
This project establishes sustainability managed rubber tree plantations on 2,366 hectares of degraded land. The plantations are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), thereby introducing sustainable forestry practices to the region and ensuring the long-term social and economic well-being of forest workers and local communities. Some 800 permanent forestry jobs were created. The planting of trees restores degraded lands, which in turn reduces soil erosion, protects biodiversity, and conserves water and natural resources.
These offsets were verified to the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
