Environmental Footprint

Our environmental footprint is one of the more important metrics we use to track progress towards our Mission Zero® goals. To do this we used a science-based process, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), to compare the full range of environmental effects by quantifying all inputs and outputs of material flows and assessing how these material flows have an impact on the environment. Because Interface has the greatest influence on the impacts through the Production Stage Carbon Footprint (cradle-to-gate), this is where we focus most of our activities. As you can see in the graphic below, the average product carbon footprint of our carpet has been reduced by 31% since 2008. (We were not using Life Cycle Assessment in 1996, but we have estimated that our carbon footprint reduction since then would be about 50%.)
